First prize at the International
Bassoon Competition Rimskij-Korsakov St. Petersburg
The young bassoonist of the Mariinsky Theatre St. Petersburg, Jura Radzevich, achieved the first
prize at the International Bassoon Competition held in November 2008.

First prize winner Rodion Tolmachev
Rodion Tolmachev was born in 1978 in Uzbekistan. He started his music
studies at the age of six. Since 1998 till 2003 he studied at the
St. Petersburg State Conservatory with Prof. K. Sokolov, followed
by studies with Prof. Dag Jensen at the Hochschule für Musik und
Theater in Hannover (Germany). Since 2000 he is princ. bassoon at
the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, St. Petersburg.
He is winner of the First Prize of the All-Russian Wind Competition
(St. Petersburg, 2000), he achieved the third prize at the
International Quintet Competition (Munich, 2001) and the
„Grand-Prix“ at the Japan Wind and Percussion
Competition (Tokyo, 2007). Recently he became First prize winner
at the 2008 IDRS Gillet-Fox Competition for bassoon in Provo,
Utah, USA. Rodion Tolmachev performs on a Püchner
bassoon.
Bassoon repairs in Brazil
Mauro Lucio Silva Ávila, bassoonist at the Brazilian Symphony
Orchestra, Rio de Janeiro has successfully completed a repair
training in our workshop in Nauheim in January/February 2008 and
is available to carry out adjustments and bassoon repairs in
